Another missionary, retired since ‘03, is Jess Thompson, who was baptized as a young boy and later ordained at IFBC before going overseas. A ’65 Idalou grad with a BS in Animal Science from Tech in ’75 and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in ’86, Jess was appointed in 1976 as an agricultural evangelist to Ghana, West Africa, before marrying Peggy and being transferred to Equatorial Guinea in 1981 to open Baptist work while serving as mission administrator and general evangelist. In ’96, he began serving as strategy coordinator/church planter for the Ife people group of Benin and Togo. Four years later, he was transferred to Cameroon, researching unreached people groups of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). After 27 years of service, Jess and Peggy are now residing in San Angelo.
